Stairway to heaven
Stairs are our niche, our speciality. They throw up hundreds of problems, but executed effectively and they suddenly become the feature of any home. For this project, the client wanted an eye catching staircase, which was clad from the same timber to the adjacent floor. The clients brief was that the staircase was to be contemporary, striking and at the same time to be quite subtle. Therefore, we initially installed a timber border on the outside edge of the step at the same depth as the material to be used to clad the steps. We finished the border off in white to match the wall thus creating a frame for the dark cladded timber steps . Looking down the stairs from the landing, the steps were showcased and were clearly differentiated from the floor in the hallway.
