Grade II Dilemma

This beautiful Grade Two listed building is in the heart of Hertfordshire, where, as with any listed building, making any structural changes to the building is an absolute no-no. The client wanted wood flooring and had been told that due to a grand fire place and impressive circular pillars this was not possible. We disagreed. We undertook a detailed site survey to fully understand the limitations posed by a Grade Two listing, liaised with the interior designer and client and then came up with inventive solutions to counter the problems faced. We very subtly and gradually raised the flooring to meet the fireplace and give the feel of a seamless finish. With the circular pillars, we placed a false collar that allowed us to cut the timber right up to the base. Once the project was completed the client was over the moon. We had made their dream a reality.
